The Women's Ministry Group
The Five Tasks of WMU:
To Pray for and Give to Missions
To Do Missions
To Learn about Missions
To Develop Spiritually toward a Missions Lifestyle
To Participate in the Work of the Church and Larger Faith Community
The Women's Missions Group (WMU) is an umbrella organization that features smaller groups for all age levels and interests. Through these groups, people of like ages, interests or lifestyles come together and are encouraged to develop a missions-minded focus through mission education, awareness and action. These age-level groups are for adult women, children and youth. Each age-level group has its own meeting times, emphases, and projects. The WMU as a whole oversees mission's education and awareness for the whole church, and meets when these groups and other church members come together for a common goal.
Mission's education and support as embodied in the WMU has been a significant part of FBC life since its beginning. The second oldest missionary society in the South was established at FBC in 1814.
The WMU continues to transform itself to reflect the new possibilities of today. There are educational materials for all ages, emphases such as the unreached people groups, and many opportunities for volunteer missions. Our church is also teaming up with already established organizations to help in our own community. There are many exciting ways to do and learn about missions.
A continued commitment to mission support is reflected in the Women's leadership in prayer-offering emphases. During the Advent and Easter seasons, a World Missions Offering is collected.
